I define art as an expression of something thought or felt mostly in visual form. What art means to me is a way to express yourself and how things make you feel in a visual and expressive way. I look at art as a way to express yourself.
For this blog I have selected a piece of art that is an illustration of the Texas A&M football team in a huddle. This piece of art captures someone’s interpretation and/or expression of Texas A&M. In the background of the piece of art that was painted is the A&M student body standing (of course) along with the Nationally Famous Fightin Texas Aggie Band and members of the corps standing on the side lines. This is an expression of the Texas A&M tradition of the twelfth man. Purposely enough I feel like, the side of Kyle field that was painted is the side that has “Home of the 12th Man” painted between the decks of student seating. This piece of art is during the context of a Texas A&M football game and participates in the representation of our fine school. This could be used in the media as a representation of Texas A&M and some of what it stands for by exhibiting unity as is shown at football games through the twelfth man.

I think your evaluation of art as something that is a representation of a feeling is extremely accurate. I think that something that's important to remember when we view a piece of art or listen to a piece of music, we should be trying to figure out what the representation is meant to be and how we interpret that piece of art in terms of that representation. I think your picture was a really good example of this idea of representation through art.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that basically the first thing I saw when looking at this painting is "Home of the 12th Man" written in big letters in the stands. I see that is definitely done on purpose by the artist. To me, it kind of says that none of the action on-field (with how the coach and players are huddling) would be able to happen without fan support, considered altogether as the "12th man".
ReplyDeleteI had that picture on my background a couple of years ago. There aren't many hand drawn pictures of Kyle Field or the football team, so this painting is pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI like your picture selection. The picture is a great representation of the 12th man at it's finest! Like yourself, I believe that the "Home of the 12th Man" section was the center piece of the picture to show the true spirit of Aggieland.
